Summary, etc. In the year 1866, the whole maritime population of Europe and America is excited by a mysterious and inexplicable phenomenon. the excitement is caused by an enormous " something" that ships often encounter. It is a a long spindle-shape object, sometimes glowing, much larger and much faster than a whale. Some people call it the terrible "Moby Dick", while others call it the "kraken." <br/>20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne (1870) follows Professor Aronnax, his servant Conseil, and harpooner Ned Land, who are captured by the mysterious Captain Nemo after investigating a rumored sea monster. They travel the world in the advanced submarine, the Nautilus, witnessing wonders, fighting monsters, and exploring sunken ruins, before escaping as Nemo’s sanity collapses.
