The Horse and His Boy (1954) by C.S. Lewis is a stand-alone adventure in The Chronicles of Narnia series, set during the Pevensie siblings' Golden Age reign. It follows Shasta, a boy fleeing slavery in Calormen, and Bree, a talking horse, who partner with a girl named Aravis and her horse Hwin to escape to Narnia. The group discovers a plot to invade Archenland and Narnia, forcing them to race north to warn the kingdom.
